Posy Simmonds

Posy Simmonds (Berkshire, 1945) is an author of children's books and graphic novels, including Cassandra Darke, Gemma Bovery and Tamara Drewe, the latter two created for the prestigious newspaper The Guardian and later adapted for the screen.

Her work often has folkloric resonances and tends to be gently satirical towards the British middle class, especially those associated with the world of art and literature.

In 1981 she received the Cartoonist of the Year Award at the British Press Awards, and the film adaptation of one of her works, Famous Fred, was nominated for an Oscar and several Bafta Awards.

In 2002 she was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her contribution to the newspaper industry, and in 2009 she received the Critics' Prize from the French Association of Comic Critics and Reviewers (acbd).
