Higinia Garay (Bilbao, 1978) has a degree in Fine Arts and a postgraduate degree in Publication Design from the European Institute of Design in Madrid.  

Since 2002 she has been working as an illustrator and graphic designer, and since 2013 she has focused on contemporary illustration as well as on running her own studio. She also combines these activities with teaching in master classes and workshops.  

Her career and artistic sensibility have led her to specialize in issues related to culture, gender inequality and human rights violations.   

Higinia has been selected for the Graphic Novel Residency in Angoulême 2024 of Acción Cultural Española and for the Comic Crusade Residency in 2021, organized by the Maison de la littérature de Quebec, the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image de Angoulême and Azkuna Zentroa. She has also received the grant for Graphic creation for comics from the Basque government in 2019.  

She has published two graphic novels with Astiberri, Todas nosotras (All of Us) in 2020 and La palabra que empieza por A (The Word that Begins with an A) in 2022.
