The jury for the Sophie Castille Award for Best Translation into Spanish or Catalan, comprising Nieves Gamonal, Miguel Sánchez and Scheherezade Surià representing Red Vértice, and Carlos Mayor as last year’s winner, has decided to award this year’s prize to Montserrat Meneses Vilar for her translation of Joe Sacco’s The Once and Future Riot, published in Spanish by Reservoir Books as El disturbio eterno. The jury commended the extensive research involved in translating this complex graphic report, the precision and fluency in handling journalistic and spoken language, and finally the meticulous work of fitting the text into speech bubbles and captions, overcoming the clear difficulties posed by Sacco’s style.
