María Medem (Seville, 1994) started self-publishing her comics after studying Fine Arts. She published her first full-length comic with Terry Bleu, a small Dutch publisher.
She has participated in anthologies such as NOW (Fantagraphics), Cold Cube (Cold Cube Press) and Clubhouse (Colorama), and collaborates with different fanzines.
She published Zenith in 2018 with Apa-Apa, with which she won the prize for best new author at the 37 Comic Barcelona and the ACDComic Critics' Award for Best Emerging Author.
She has also published Echos with the French publisher Fidèle Editions. She has done illustrations for media such as the New Yorker and the New York Times.
She has also made animations for musicians such as Rival Consoles or Hermanos Gutiérrez. Her latest comic Por culpa de una Flor (Because of a Flower), which was published in February 2023 by Apa-Apa Còmics and Blackie Books, has been translated into French and will soon be published in the US by Drawn & Quarterly.
