Chanti (Santiago González Riga) was born in Mendoza and is currently one of the most prolific creators of children’s comics in Argentina. According to newspapers La Nación and Clarín, he is currently the best-selling children's author.
He has published over 80 books as a sole author, most of which are children’s comics. Not only that, but Chanti is also one of the founders of “Banda Dibujada”, a cultural movement that supports the creation, publication and dissemination of children's comics.
He has been a professional comic artist for over 35 years. Notable comic strips include Facu y Café con Leche (Facu and Coffee with Milk), originally published in La Valijita de Billiken magazine and now comprising 12 books, and Mayor y menor (Greater and Lesser), which has reached 26 volumes and become a huge success. This comic strip for all the family began publication in the magazine Rumbos over 20 years ago.
In 2005, Mayor y menor won the Santa Clara de Asís Award, and in 2006, Chanti was honored by the Mendoza Legislature for his contribution to culture. In 2015, the Mayor y menor comic book won the Banda Dibujada Award for best comic for children. In 2016, Chanti received the Raíces Award, presented by the historic Radio de Cuyo to Mendoza's creators as voted for by listeners. In 2018, his book Historias de Lirantes 2 (Funny Stories 2) won the ALIJA (Argentine Association of Children's and Youth Literature) award in the comic book category. That same year, he also won the ALIJA Readers' Award for his book Criaturas (Creatures), chosen by young readers. This book has now also been published in Canada by Les 400 Coups. He also received an honour from the Senate of Mendoza for encouraging children to read.
In 2022, ALIJA awarded his book Mayor y menor Monstruoso (Greater and Lesser Monstrous) in the comics category. In 2023, Banda Dibujada awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to great authors who have dedicated their lives to children's comics.
