Paolo Villanelli

Known for his work on iconic Star Wars titles, and his recent work on Spider Gwen: Ghost Spider, Paolo Villanelli is considered one of the standout Italian comic artists of his generation.

His precise linework and dynamic style have quickly established him as one of the hottest European talents in American comics, thanks to his work on series like Iron Man, Daredevil, Captain Marvel, and the Black Widow and Hawkeye miniseries, among others.

Back in 2014, after studying at the Business School of Rome, Paolo Villanelli made a bold move, ditching his promising corporate career to become a full-time comic book artist.

His professional debut was a one-shot for Hellraiser: Bestiary by Boom! Studios, which led to his first collaborations with IDW on Snake Eyes: Agent of Cobra, G.I. Joe, Action Man, A Real American Hero, Rom Spaceknight, and Rom and the Micronauts.

In 2016, Paolo Villanelli joined Marvel, working on titles like Squadron Supreme, Guardians of Infinity, The Marvels, Iron Man, Daredevil, Asgardians of the Galaxy, and Fantastic Four. But his big break came with Star Wars, working on Jedi Fallen Order, Rogue One, Darth Vader: Dark Visions, and Lando, Double or Nothing, before becoming a regular artist on Star Wars: Bounty Hunters for three years.

Lately, Paolo has jumped back into the superhero scene with series like Captain Marvel: Dark Tempest and the Black Widow and Hawkeye miniseries.

Right now, Villanelli is working on the new Spider Gwen: Ghost Spider series with writer Stephanie Phillips, and he’s also doing cover art for various other titles.
