He is an artist who graduated in illustration from the Zaragoza School of Art in 1996. That same year, he began publishing comics in the fanzine 451º, where he met other Zaragoza-based authors with whom he has shared his career ever since. He turned professional with Espiral (Spiral - 1998) in the Brut collection published by La Cúpula.
Starting in 2000, he began working for major American publishers, first at Marvel and then at DC Comics, where he established himself with titles such as Fallen Angel (2002), co-created with Peter David, and, above all, Catwoman (2004), which he drew continuously for no fewer than 30 issues, breaking several records.
In 2008, he returned to Marvel for a closer collaboration; in Avengers: The Reunion (2008), he brought the love of the main superheroes to Zaragoza, and continued at the publisher, drawing for some of its flagship series: X-Men, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
His most high-profile contribution to Marvel mythology has been his work on Captain Marvel (2014) alongside writer Kelly Sue de Connick, a work that inspired the 2019 film based on that same character.
It was with BlackHand & IronHead (2017) that he returned to writing his own creations. This graphic novel was serialized in digital format by Panel Syndicate and published in print by Panini Italia (2018), Astiberri (2019) in Spain, Dargaud (2019) in France, and Image (2020) in the United States. The second volume was published in 2023.
He is currently collaborating again with Kelly Sue de Connick on FML (2024), published by Dark Horse. David López has worked for the world’s top publishers and illustrated their most iconic characters, receiving nominations for major national awards and American industry accolades. He also regularly appears on the comic book outreach channel “cartoonist streaming”.
