Winner of the 2025 Eisner Award for Best Limited Series and nominee in the categories of Best Colorist and Best Artist, Spanish artist Javier Rodríguez has emerged in recent years as one of the most prominent voices in modern comics. Notable titles in his portfolio include his award-winning Zatanna: Bring Down the House and his current work on Absolute Martian Manhunter, alongside Deniz Camp.
Javier burst onto the Spanish comic book scene in the early '90s, combining self-publishing with his work as a guitarist in a punk-rock band. He moved on from underground fanzines to the legendary Spanish magazine El Víbora and contributed as an illustrator to the daily newspaper El País. He later published several graphic novels, such as Wake-Up (Glénat) and Miedo (Fear), which immediately caught the attention of American publishers thanks to his versatility.
Rodríguez then made the leap to the United States as a colorist, debuting with Batgirl: Year One for DC, working on titles such as Doctor Strange: The Oath, Amazing Spider-Man, Mighty Thor, and Daredevil for Marvel. However, it wouldn't be long before he took on his first projects as a full-fledged artist, marking a turning point in his career.
For over a decade, he collaborated with Marvel Comics as an artist on series such as Superior Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme, Exiles, Defenders, and Defenders: Beyond, and the ambitious History of the Marvel Universe.
In 2020, he returned to DC Comics as a full-fledged artist. Since then, his work has included titles such as Harley Quinn: Black, White & Red; The Sandman Universe; The Brave and the Bold; Green Arrow; Titans; his miniseries Zatanna: Bring Down the House, for which he won an Eisner Award in 2025; and his current work on Absolute Martian Manhunter.
