Étienne Davodeau was born in Botz-en-Mauges in 1965. In the second half of the 1980s, he studied fine arts in Rennes and, together with several fellow artists, created the Psurde comic book studio. This provided them with the minimal structure needed to publish their first works. Since then, he has produced a diverse and extensive body of work, often addressing social issues and employing journalistic techniques. Notable titles include Les Mauvaises Gens (Bad People), which addresses the trade union movement in France; Rural, which explores the challenges faced by the agricultural sector; and Les Ignorants (The Ignorant People), a unique collaboration between comics and wine that remains his greatest success. His other titles include Lulu femme nue (Lulu, Naked Woman), Les couloirs aériens (Air Runners) and Loira.
Throughout his career, he has won the most prestigious awards: Nouvelle République, Bédélys, Tournesol, Prix des Libraires de Bande Dessinée, Grand Prix de la critique, Prix France Info, Prix du Public du Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême, Prix France Info, Prix RTL, Prix Saint-Michel and Prix Ouest-France.
His most recent work, Là où tu vas, won the Grand Prix RTL de la BD and has been nominated for both the Prix Fnac France Inter 2025 and the Prix BD France Info 2025.
He currently lives in Anjou.
