Natalia Velarde was born in Venezuela in 1994 and has lived in Madrid since 2005.
She has worked with the French magazine Métal Hurlant from Les Humanoïdes Associés.
She founded the self-publishing imprint Tarde y Triste and has published the fanzines La vaina morena, Desde el vacío, Porque tengo que escribir una historia de conejos, Seengawayani, Lupercalia, De mayor dibujante, Naguará #1 and #2, and En cucha ardiendo (se duerme a ratos). She has also coordinated the collective fanzine Vorázine and contributed to various collective publications from other imprints, such as Loop magazine, Malfario Cómics, and La gran belleza.
Her first graphic novel, Encías quemadas (Burnt Gums - Reservoir Books, 2025), received an Injuve grant for young creators and won the 2026 Antifaz Award for Best National Comic, the Finestres Comic Award for Best Work, and the ACDCómic Award for Best National Work and Emerging Author. It was also nominated for Best National Work at the Zaragoza Comic Fair.
