Javier "Javi" Fernández is a Spanish comic book artist known worldwide for his work as a cover artist and regular contributor to many of DC Comics' most prominent titles, such as Batman, as well as for being the lead artist on King Spawn (the top-selling comic book of 2021 in the U.S. market).
The Granada native's first professional job was in 2010, when he worked on several titles for Kickstart Comics. Just one year later, he signed with Marvel Comics, where his incredible run on Captain America quickly put him on the radar.
He also worked on a series of Magneto issues in 2014.
Since 2011, Fernández has been a regular contributor to many successful DC Comics titles, including Batman, Nightwing, Detective Comics, Justice League, and Green Arrow.
In 2021, Fernández began working as the lead artist on King Spawn, one of the titles in Todd McFarlane’s expanded Spawn Universe. It is published by Planeta in Spain.
After three years with the franchise, Fernández returns to DC as the regular artist on Batman and Robin, working alongside Phillip Kennedy Johnson. They take over from Joshua Williamson and Simone DiMeo, taking the series in a more adult, noir direction with hints of the horror that permeates everything PKJ writes. After just one story arc, DC offered him the opportunity to lead the publisher’s annual event, DC KO. Together with Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson, DC KO became the best-selling event in recent years since Metal. Javi is currently working on a new DC project to be released at the end of the year.
