Stefano Casini

Stefano Casini (Livorno, Italy, 1958) is one of the most distinctive and original voices in contemporary European comics. His work is distinguished by a mature, deeply human perspective that combines historical rigor, narrative ambition, and special attention to the psychology of his characters.

Casini trained at the Academy of Liberal Arts in Rosignano Solvay and the Higher Institute for Artistic Industry in Florence. He began his professional career in fashion and graphic design before focusing on comics in the late 1970s. He co-founded Edizioni 50, where he promoted Prova d'Autore magazine, which was pivotal for his international exposure and integration into the Italian and European scenes.

Since the 1990s, Casini has produced more than 26 albums for the science fiction series Nathan Never, published by Sergio Bonelli Editore, as well as other independent stories. He later transitioned to the French market as a complete author. Following several self-contained works published in various countries, he created ¡Hasta la Victoria! (Until victory!), a work set during the Cuban Revolution that marked a turning point in his career.

This was followed by the highly acclaimed titles La Spada e la Croce (The Sword and the Cross) and La Croce Sanguinante (The Bleeding Cross), which are set during the Thirty Years' War; Mimbreños, a psychological western; and independent stories such as Moonlight Blues. These works confirm Casini's recognizable style, which is based on elegant lines, exhaustive documentation, and choral stories featuring characters of great psychological complexity.

Cartem Comics has published ¡Hasta la Victoria!, Mimbreños, and La Spada e la Croce, thus consolidating Casini's presence in the market. In 2026, we will publish Sabò, an unpublished work in which the author presents one of his most intimate and restrained narratives, built from silence, observation, and the weight of time standing still.
