Two Spanish premieres and a tribute to Mamoru Hosoda will be added to the ANIME DAY section, which will also feature one of the year’s biggest anime hits.
The tenth edition of the BCN FILM FEST, taking place from 16 to 24 April 2026, will once again feature the successful ANIME DAY section. The aim of this section is to present Japanese anime content (premieres, classics, documentaries, etc.) on the big screen. Five productions will be presented, most of which are based on popular manga. This continues the Festival's focus on films adapted from literary works, one of its main pillars since its inception.
Following its warm reception in 2025, the festival will dedicate another day to Japanese animated cinema this year. This year's edition will feature a world premiere presented by 3CAT and Super3. They will introduce the first anime-style series created in Catalonia and based on the comics by Míriam Bonastre Tur: VALENTINA DE MONTBLANC.
ANIME DAY at the BCN Film Festival will also feature two Spanish premieres: A NEW DAWN from the Official Section of the Berlin Film Festival and ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM THE MOVIE: OUR TIME, the continuation of one of the most beloved sagas among manga and anime fans and a completely new story celebrating the anime’s 10th anniversary. Also screening at the festival will be the cult phenomenon Chainsaw Man: The Movie – The Reze Arc, released last year. We will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, the iconic work by Mamoru Hosoda, to whom we will pay a special tribute.
Coordinated by CineAsia, who are part of the Festival team, the ANIME DAY section features the support and special collaboration of MANGA BARCELONA, joining us on 19 April at the Verdi Cinemas. Each of the five ANIME DAY screenings will be preceded by a presentation and will include a raffle and many other surprises.
