GUILLERMO SAAVEDRA, WINNER OF THE COMIC BARCELONA ANGOULÊME 2026 SCHOLARSHIP

FICOMIC, the Institut français of Barcelona and the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image join forces to support the careers of emerging comic book authors, increase their visibility and facilitate encounters between the French and Barcelonian comic book scenes. To this end, the three organizations have launched a cross-residency program for French authors interested in getting to know the Barcelona scene. Maybelline Skvortzoff and Antoine Maillard, the winners of the first call for applications, were welcomed to Barcelona in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

In 2026 and 2027, the program will be open to Spanish authors interested in discovering French comic book production and completing a residency at the Maison des Auteurs of the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image.

For the 2026 edition, the first to focus on Spanish talent, the jury selected author Guillermo Saavedra's project Recreo (Break Time). He will be hosted in Angoulême at the Maison des auteurs from the 2nd of March to the 1st of June 2026.

WINNER OF THE EDITION

Guillermo Saavedra (Gran Canaria, 1997) has been self-publishing and distributing his comics since 2018, but he started drawing much earlier. He works as an illustrator and attends fanzine and graphic art festivals as often as he can. In 2021 he published his first graphic novel, Siembra (Sowing - Dibbuks). His drawings appear in Love & War (ComiXology, Dark Horse) and Salvaje (Beascoa), as well as in various children's stories and comics for adults.

In 2023, he began publishing Las aventuras de Jesulito Jesulín (The Adventures of Jesulito Jesulín). Recreo, his selected project, revisits the characters from his comics and takes them on a longer journey during school break time. In this story, all the girls in the class have had the same dream, starring a deceased pop star. Young Dounia must unravel the mystery of this dream to foil an evil plot.
